Hello I have a ocellarous clownfish and a rose bubble tip anenome. I tried to catch the clown fish and i couldn’t. I was gonna put him in a bowl with holes and put the anenome in there with it but I couldn’t catch the clown. What should I do for it to host it? Thanks

Welcome to R2R! I agree with @lapin if it's meant to be it'll happen on its own. Not worth stressing out the fish and the anemone trying to get them to pair up.

BTAS don't naturally host occelaris clowns in the wild so that could be part of the problem. Overtime, the clown may begin to host, but if not I'd reccomend switching your occelaris clowns for Clarkiis or Maroons. These have a near 100% hosting rate from what I've seen. Best of luck!

They call it symbiosis. If its meant to be, a bond will form and often its sooner than later.

Haha I had a nem for 2 years before it jumped into my powerhead. But my clowns perfered my magscraper over the nem. Plus I believe that certain clowns are drawn to certain nems. but theyll choose what theyre comfortable with. No need to force. Lol

My clown has decided to host my hammer coral and the odd thing is the coral doesnt close up and it really doesnt seem to mind the clown? Just goes to show you never know what they will host.

My percs wouldn’t go near my long tentacle nem. Ws in Petco getting dog food and saw a fire clown purchased him nd within ten min he was all over my nem. I had never seen a fire clown beautiful! I think they’re the same as the clarkii’s though just a reddish color.

My Wyoming white and the black and white clow host in my red bubble tip. It just happen. But they say print out a pic if the fish in a nem and stick it to the glass. Ol reefers advice lol. Never done it

Of course a picture didn’t work .... it’s absurd LOL!

There was a list here (or maybe on RC) of clown and anemone pairings in nature. Different clowns will see different anemones as an acceptable host. Occelaris seem particularly picky, and the anemones they prefer all happen to be the harder ones to keep.

Your clownfish probably prefers another area of the tank because of flow conditions. Clowns will prefer somewhere where they can access the strongest flow in the tank easily. Try moving around the flow directions and see if you can make the clown feel more safe near the anemone and it will possibly accept it :)
