If hot glue is a thermoplastic, can it be used to glue rock together? It's non-toxic and all. I see companies like Fauna Marin with Aquascape fix and Aquamaxx reef welder using thermoplastics. Is this a viable option?

It is safe but in using it for the past couple of years. I would not recommend it to do any fancy rock work with it. As it doesn't fuse the rock. It creates a mold that is tight to the rock. In use for frag's it is fine as the coral will grow over it and secure itself. My main use has been as a Aiptasia killer. I place the melted plastic over the aiptasia in doing so killing it. Which makes me very happy.

Nothing fancy just had my shelf piece break and I'm going to put it back together.

Hot glue is most certainly a thermoplastic....by definition. However, most being EVA (Ethylene-vinyl acetate), it won't hold up in water conditions. It will swell and fail as an adhesive.

You'd be better off with an epoxy.
