I found a few old threads on people using hot glue guns to mount coral frags to frag plugs. Has anyone done this?

I don't want to link other forums but they said what the glue sticks were made out of and it's not toxic. I was wondering if anyone had first hand experience doing it.

I've definitely used hot glue in my tanks before. Not for frags, but DIY stuff. Like frag racks, skimmers etc.. I would think you'd want something that dries quicker for frags to hold them in place, like super glue or frag glue. Don't recall using any specific type, and never had any issues with the hot glue in the tank.

I'm curious on the advantage over gel superglue? I also have not tried it.

^Same here, I'd be curious about the heat of the glue. They must have waited for the glue to cool and become a bit tacky first? Seems very hot coming out of the gun imo.

I can buy a giant bag of glue sticks for $5 that would last way longer than 5 packs of super glue from the $1 store is why I'm curious.

I don't think the heat of the hot glue would have much of an affect. The 2 part putty gets hot also that people use. I'd imagine it will kill the tissue the glue touches but I'm sure it would just grow over it.

It doesn’t work well of softies.
Super glue chemically bonds to sufaces. Basically dissolving a later That’s why it sticks to your fingers .Hot glue penetraits small holes and crevices and then dries holding them. Super glue does a bit of this too , but depending on what you’re gluing the chemical and penetrating hold are different.

We have used Frag Fix from Dupla the last six months with good results. Not sure if it's that kind of glue you mean, but it's a glue/plastic that you need to put in hot water before you use it.

If it’s non toxic I can only imagine it being awesome. A perfect blend between reef epoxy and super glue. Since it’s a HOT glue gun it probably cools rather quickly which would start the hardening process faster. In theory this seems like a solid idea.
I’ll probably try it with a frag or two

Would it be a good option for gluing dry rock when setting up a tank? Any one try the hot glue in this manner?

My worry was how safe is it in a tank. I don't worry what so ever of it killing a sps frag. Im sure it will probably kill softies but I don't usually deal with those.

I have been using Aquaforest Poly Glue lately and it has been great. Easy to use, easy to form, and completely non toxic. Obviously more expensive, but I have enjoyed using it.
