Hi all,
I just got back from a trip and was cleaning the tank. There's one particular area that gets a lot of detritus so I blow it off with a turkey baster every so often. I haven't done it in about 2 weeks but when I did there was a beautiful hot pink coralline algae underneath. Or what I'm assuming is coralline. Has anyone seen this before?

I think it looks really cool!

There are all sorts of colors. They like lower light. Its typical to see pink kind after cleaning algae or detritus. That is if spores of it made it to your system.

Sry to burst your bubble, but if these are spots that was previously buried in detritus, then these are regular coraline thats on their way to death.

When coraline is dying they change to this very bright, almost fluorescent, pink, before turning white and die.

Being buried under the detritus is likely the cause of it dying

Bummer! It looks so cool. Well I'll make sure to blow off that area more often now.

Unfortunately when I've had coralline turn neon Barbie doll pink, it's been on it's way out (usually coralline that was on a snail that stayed on top of the return nozzle all day and was exposed to air as a result). Looks amazing before it finally turns white.

I'll just have to enjoy it while it lasts!
