Hi all my temp was s 83 ; normally over the past 3 years it only climbs in the 80s in the summer and I’ll put the AC on
The room is 76 ; my tank is 150
So my heaters are off
Only thing I can think is the pumps need a cleaning I’ve got 3 varios 8 dc pumps
Maybe they’re running hot ?

I was hitting 82 sometimes last summer and fish/inverts seemed fine, but didn't have corals yet then.

Saw your other post mentioning that sump is in basement so here goes a probably stupid question:
Does the basement get hot in the summer?
*never lived in a house with a basement (obviously)

Actually my sump is under tank thank you

I'd agree with the other posters that 83 isn't terrifying. But, depending on what fish/inverts/corals you keep, and things like nutrient levels, it might not be ideal. When I lived in NE MA years ago, my 150 would hit those temps in the summer and I don't recall bleaching or loss of corals related to the temps.

OTOH, due to temps in the summer, and my MH lights, I did end up getting a chiller for the tank to manage heat when I lived up there.

Your idea of cleaning pumps sounds like a good one. I have noticed dirty pumps running warmer than I'd like.

Did you happen to double check the temp with another method? I recently had the problem with my apex - the temp alert would go on - saying the temp is 82, I checked it with another thermometer - it was fine.

Good point, yes I did

Some things you can do:
-Home A/C does help
-Fan helps
-Making ice packs from zip lock bags effective. Fill 4-6 with water and freeze. When temperature rises, add a bag or two in sump. When they melt, take out two more and place melted ones back in freezer until temperature reaches safe range
