So tank got low while I was at work and the GF made water but she accidentally turned on the hot water when she used the RODI. How much of a problem is this, do I need to replace the filters or anything?

More than likely you just messed with your waste water ratio. I've seen a number of people do this without an issue. The RO membrane, I believe, is the only sensitive component and that can handle up to 113F (assuming you have the standard filmtec from DOW). Do you know what your tap water comes out at on hot?

EDIT: I think most hot water heaters are set at 120F

Info from DOW:

Elements are not designed to support the temperature higher than 45°C (113°F). It does not mean that the elements cannot exceed the maximum temperature limit of 45°C. However, a greater potential for element damage exists as the temperature increases above 45°C, and the warranty is void. In order to operate or clean at high temperatures, high-temperature or heat-sanitizable elements with different materials of construction are recommended. FILMTEC currently offers heat-sanitizable elements that can be heat-sanitized up to 85°C (185°F).

I would say best ask the manufacturer to check if there could be a problem with running the unit with hot water. Most likely, the unit had to do more filtration as the hot water usually (at least at my house) has more impurities. Like TheEngineer asks, how hot does the water run anyway?

Should be fine but would check the temp your water comes out faucet as stated above and make sure it didn't go over the membranes max temp.
Mostly your rejection rate decreases as temp increases. Most likely no harm was done making the water. If you see you TDS readings of product water go up from zero then you may have an issue or if your using DI resign and you see it burning up quickly that will be a good sign that the membrane isn't performing well.

Adding hot water to your tank well that is something not cool but I assume that didn't happen.

Maybe teach your GF a little more about your reef setup incase you need her to help again.

ugh, this just happened to me by mistake. ran the unit for about an hour with very hot water. (above that 113 threshold) Fairly new RO membrane.. Should I chuck it?

Do you have a TDS meter pre and post membrane? If it’s running within your membrane’s rejection specification, then keep it.

IF YOU HAD TO TAKE A REEFING EXAM, WOULD YOU PASS?
