HOTEL CORALLINE 75 gallon

:-/

#honestyinreefing

Was setting up for hand feeding again like normal.
Uncover the front 6" glass tops.
Place a folded 2"x2" square of nori on each of the 3 clips we use to prevent too much competition.

Go and chop up some frozen clam for hand feeding.

Hand feeding the fish the usual half a mini clam.

Notice yellow tang and a yellow 'coris' wrasse are missing.

Yellow tang was wedged in the rocks and 4th wrasse is on the floor.

Not a good tank day.

That sucks :( a bummer losing anyone of our finned friends let alone two at once.
Love the tank and vid hoping my CBB gets as fat and happy as yours is.

Thanks! CBB is doing well. Finally getting as fat as some that come into the LFS.
No idea what has changed for new copperbands coming into the LFS. They are mostly fat as can be and look fantastic.
Wonderful change from old school where they came in thin as a rail.

May 2019 update.

Bought 2 tiny H. Chrysus to replace the 2 that jumped out over the past month.
They are significantly smaller than the other 3 in the tank.
No issues with acceptance from the other 3 H. Chrysus.
The springeri damsel didn't like them for the first day. Now no issues.

The sad part is this was enough to completely upset the 3 remaining visible royal gramma.
It took a week before they were all visible again.

The royal gramma have been a major disappointment in terms of sturdiness and willingness to jump up and grab food around fish that don't really qualify as being aggressive.

The 2 new H. Chrysus are 7/8" and 1 1/8" long. The large gramma is 2.25" and the 2 smaller grammas are about 1.5"
All Grammas have been in the tank for most of a year.

Pics or it disnt happen :)

Unfortunately the royal gramma are no longer visible. Last sighting of last visible gramma was May 5th.
I am no longer kidding myself they are still alive and just hiding in the rocks. :-/

Even though there are random sightings of creatures I never expected to see again.
:- )

That vague blur is one of the 2 pom pom crabs added a year ago.

I have heard of fish missing and hiding for months. Dont lose hope yet!

Are those mojano? They almost look Duncan-ish..

Bad news, lost the small flame hawkfish.

Had been hand feeding it by pushing food to it from a few inches away.
It was getting thinner and thinner over a few months.

Couldn't catch it by hand. Kept feeding it but it was never enough to keep weight on it. It was attentive each time for the first 1 or 2 mouthfulls, but wouldn't stick around for more.
It needed 6 or 7 mouth fulls to put weight back on.
Settled for feeding it and not scaring it away completely by trying to catch it by hand.

Went out of town for 5 days and it didn't get enough while we were gone. Haven't seen it since then.

Will no longer consider trying a flame hawkfish and a longnose hawkfish in the same 75 gallon tank as a reasonable choice.

When small, they start out fine.
It's great! They are both amazing beautiful fish. You can enjoy them together for a few months without obvious problems. They just avoid/ignore each other for quite a while.

But over a year's time, one eventually grows faster than the other and intimidates the smaller one.

The longnose hawkfish has grown from a 2 inch pencil to a 3.5 inch monster.
Beautiful fish!
It runs in whenever I have a clam thawing in the water and steals as much as it can.

Those are the 2 pompoms of the pompom crab! :- )

Can't even get a blurry pic of the pretty crab. Just the pompoms sticking out far enough for a quick cellphone pic.
