Hot rocks, the phosphorus ULR checker comes with a conversion chart if I recall. Lost mine, so I google Hanna ULR phosphorus conversion chart and boom. ZERO math to be done.

This exactly. If alk and CA are stable, weekly or every other week water changes are done, you can't go wrong. Po4 at 0.04 ppm, and no4 at 6ppm is roughly what I aim for, but as long as they're detectable, you should be fine.

He is working on getting them down but with his overstocked tank it was pushing 200 at one point. With all the fish he has, I suggested he start a new tank for the SPS, because that heavily stocked IMO he doesn't stand a chance. BUT I am no expert on SPS. He is willing to do lots of water changes, and who am I to tell him what will or won't work -- I can't keep SPS because my tank is too heavily stocked LOL

It can be done and high nutrients are not a death nail. Good nutrient export and good husbandry will take you far. One of my fav tanks on R2R is Rick's 115 gallon cube. It well stocked with fish.

The most effective recipe for me has been
Keep Alk, Cal, and Mag relatively stable
Good pulsing flow
HIGH Light (Par meter recommended)
Stopped chasing “ideal” nutrient numbers
NO GFO
NO Carbon Dosing
NO Skimmer
I just grow chaeto (which is a no3 destroyer)
and keep all my fish and hermits fat and happy
The last time I checked no3 was 0.25-.5 and phosphorous was 5 (0.015 po4)
