How are you cleaning your pumps?

I don’t like to run anything in acid - sounds scary, could splash on my eyes and such. I typically disassemble, soak overnight, and scrub with a toothbrush. Extra MP40 wet sides help a lot!

I don't clean anything internal on my pumps ever. Just run them till they don't run anymore. 2.5 years and counting. I have wiped the nem guards on the MP40s maybe twice with a clothe.

I have a v1 MP10 from 2014. Upgraded the board to the QD but have never cleaned the internal part.

Now that's some use. I just don't see the need nor do I think it is a good idea to disassemble these units. Yea maybe removing gunk off the exterior to make them cosmetically nicer but I actually like the weathered old ocean look not shiny clean.

Until about 10 years ago I used to clean them. I stopped just to see how much shorter the MTBF would be. And here we are. Still have a Danner and a Vortec running 11 years later. To top it off I keep old school prams (12+KH).

That's cool

The LORD has been gracious to you. I also believe in letting them ride and I have never had a pump continue running that long. Danner has never gone Longer than 2 or 3 years at ~8 dkh. I used to run it higher 9-10 and all my pumps would quit after 6 months to a year in those days.

I used vinegar back then so that was also a problem. I use pool acid now for pumps and recently Mojano’s. They quit working after a few drops!

I have magnetic glass cleaners that have been in tanks even longer. To be fair though they look more like live rock at this point.

If you dont clean crappy jebao pumps they will get to a point the flow is like a little breeze even on full power. And thats at like 2 months. Then clean them and put them back in and forget you had them cranked to full and dang near blow the flesh off your lps. Gggrrrrr

I use muriatic acid. When I clean my pumps, the coralline is so caked on that the fins are nearly closed off, so vinegar or a freshwater soak will not do anything. This does the same thing as citric acid, but you don't use as much muriatic.

If i get a lot of algae stuck in a pump, then running it overnight in a solution with h2o2 works well.
