I did re aquascape my tank and moved a big purple stag from one location to another, it was a bit close to a frogspawn and I guess it got stunged by it during the night, coz when I saw it yesterday morning it was Stn'ed from the middle, I tried to cut the good part of stag and placed them at different locations and even those are stn'ed out. My question in general what are you guys doing to stop STN? Were you successful in stopping STN?

Tank Params: alk between 8 and 9
Nitrates 5 to 10 ppm

Thanks

I don't think anyone really knows how to stop rtn/stn. In my case if I frag an stn/rtn'ing coral I inevitably kill the whole thing. Now I just leave it alone and keep my parameters stable and hope for the best.

Well this is bad, we spend considerate amount of $$ on these and we dont have a way to save them

I would wager that something other than the frogspawn caused this event. I would look to your rescaping causing some sort of parameter swing.

Did you disturb sand at all? Do you dose? Have you tested alk? etc.

Some people believe its caused by heavy metal toxicity.

There are a few things that can remove heavy metals. Cuprisorb, metasorb, good activated carbon, polyfilters to name a few. Triton also has one.

The alk just dropped by 0.5, right now the frag is half STN and half ok, I have juts let it be to take the nature take its course

Just did this the other night to my hystrix due to shock.

Luckily I managed to frag 6 good sized pieces and they are doing great now.

I'm suffering stn with a nice red planet I have. Tired fragging it a few times and finally tried the super glue last nite. Fingers crossed it stops the issue.

Stable ALK is big, but I also suggest that you try to maintain an ALK of 7 to 8 dKh. With your nutrient levels, it will be more sustainable and easier on your frags. I had challenges with STN when I would allow my ALK to rise up to 8.5-9+ dKh.

I consider SPS basic chemistry to be ALK of 7-8 dKh and low nutrients. Any variation from that may carry some benefits but also carries some risks.

Good luck! Any changes that you DO make, make sure that you take them SLOWLY!

IME, if you can figure out why a coral is trying to die and make appropriate changes to your tank's water quality, lighting, etc., the coral will more often than not recover. Sps are particularly good at doing an about-face.

Well the STN has stopped the coral is now half STN and half good. I just left it to take the nature take its course. The best thing to do is keeping params as stable as possible. Well I had an unexpected STN I suspect it was flow coz earlier it was blasted but when I rescaped I moved it to a different location but anyways they are recovering and this happened to one stag, rest of the acros are fine.
