150 gallon DT, 200 gallon system, using the following "to keep tank clean"
1. 150 lbs. live rock
2. 3" aragonite sand bed
3. 7,000 gph. total in-tank flow
4. Skimmer rated for 300 gallons.
5. 20 gallon dedicated refugium with macroalgae.
6. giant biowheels
7. 10% water change every other week

Live rock, oversized skimmer, 7% water changes every 5-7 days, macro algae, CUC, and lots of coral, which I think is a little underrated as part of your filter since it will eat fish poop, shrimp molts, so on and so forth.

I'm running a reef octopus skimmer (rated for 100g) on my 90g DT (w/ 20g sump), and a couple packs of activated carbon. Do a 5g water change once a week, but my algae keeps coming back every time I stir up the sand bed, and some of the corals fail to thrive. Just wondered what some other people were doing for cleaning.

What kinds of corals are you having issues with? Most of what I see in your sig shouldn't be too hard to figure out what's going on

I bought two neon green birds nest's and some clove polyps about two weeks ago. The cloves look great, have already started reproducing, but the birds nests have already lost color and become completely bleached. I haven't checked my pH, ammonia, nitrate or nitrite since last week, but I will be able to post some numbers later today. Thanks for the help!
oh, and the pulsing xenia completely receded yesterday and looks all bunched up! =/

The only people that I know that have ever had issues with xenia, are ones that had tanks that were too clean, one guy literally had a monti cap that was as big as his torso by the time he cut it up, xenia would melt in his tank. Did the birdsnest go from it's normal color to white, or did it go to brown, and then white?

Oh really? I wonder if that could be the case, but I've got tons of dark algae covering the sand in one side of my tank, so I don't think it could be too clean of water (?). The birds nest's went straight from neon green to white =(

75 gal DT
30 gal 3 chamber sump
1st, drain into 7" sock, carbon sock, skimmer.
Bubble trap
2nd, return pump to DT and 3rd chamber.
3rd, refugium. Rock sand pods algae drains back into 2nd chamber.
DT, 90 lbs rock, 100 lbs sand and CUC
10 gallon water change every other Saturday. That will get upped when I start my coral career.

I use a HOB reef octopus on my sump, it is a machine constantly pulling the crud out, have an RW-8 in tank, about 70 pounds live rock, and some Chaeto. Water seems to say clean, actually chaeto isnt thriving to well, parameters are pretty much dead on.
Great question and I love reading what other reef hobbyists use.
I try and NOT use chemical anything.

Currently,
30 gallon sump, overflow box sponge, housing Red Sea Venturi over-sized Protein Skimmer says works up to 250 gallons.
65lbs Fiji Live Rock, 25lbs Fiji Live Sand, many sand sifters, and corals.
For water movement: Sump return set ball-return, 2-Koralia -1150- water movement and 2-maxijet- powerheads set-on timers.
I try and NOT use chemical anything.
75 gallon DT set-up for 22 years.

in-tank media basket with chaeto, purigen, carbon/gfo
kalk topoff with some vinegar
