I checked my tanks water parameters today and my ammonia came out at .5ppm and nitrite at 1.0 ppm. I only have a blue damsel and some margarita snails. I dont think they will die but i feel its kind of mean to keep them in does conditions. How can i bring the levels down ? Ive already done a small water change

I am thinking this is a new tank. The damsel will be fine and I think the snails will also. If you have nitrite almost there. Definitely wait to add anything else until ammonia is at 0.

Yeah tank is about to be four weeks old but my levels were fine before i added the fish and snails. It had already had ammonia and nitrite spikes before the fish and snails but i just added the fish and snails yesterday and the parameters changed :/

Sounds like you had a very light cycle

+1 agreed.
If you can ride it out, do so. If you remove the ammonia source now, it will just cycle again when you add fish the second time around. But if worse comes to worse and the damsel looks too stressed, try adding some prime. It will help clear up the ammonia.

They are most likely near the surface of your tank. Put in a skimmer or an air stone
