Everything suggests the usual Clown Fish types have a max size of 3 inches.

Is that from nose to tip of tail? Not a "fish tale" - it was "this big"!

Can I expect in my lifetime to see a pair of well-kept Clown Fish get that big?

A 3-inch fish is almost dinner size (small Brook Trout.) A lot of fish for a smallish tank IMHO.

Someone should breed a dwarf variety but that would likely be a ...

At our fish farm we have maybe 4 females that are over 20 years old and are HUGE. Easily 5".

These may be the exceptions to the rule but if you keep them healthy and happy they can get big, and live quite long.

Keep in mind that they are all Maroon. One gold flake, others are lightning. So it may just be that specific type that gets so big.

We have dwarves, I think I may have 1 or 2 in my current clutches. They are called "Stubbies"!
