So I'm going to be bulking up my cuc, for my tank size I have a very small crew. It's a 125 4x2x2 and Iv only got 3 turbo snails, 2 hermit crabs (tiny), 3 peppermint shrimps. And one stormella snail that cleans better than all the rest combined lol and I didn't even buy him. So looking at different sites they recommend a ridiculous amount of snails and i feel like these numbers are a bit large. So how many snails do you have and how big of a system? And what would be a good number for mine.

I've got a newly set up 525XL (108gal DT size) and recently added 10 trochus, 10 astraea, and 2 hermits. So far, I only have 2 clowns in the tank and all the stuff left over from the cycle. They seem to be moving throughout the tank pretty well, but aren't really done cleaning up even half the tank (they've had about a week). I suspect with time and more fish, I'll likely have to diversify the collection some (I need some nassarius to clean under the sand, for example).

Can't really say what a good number is for your tank (I'm way too new at this - first tank), but hopefully those numbers help. I know that in the 52 Weeks of Reefing series, they covered CUC numbers - I found that video helpful, though it is - of course - only one source of info...

I only have 4 nassarius snails 3 turbos and 5 hermits. In a 125. I'm planning on 8 more nassarius snails fir my sand. Oh and a urchin for my coraline thst is out of control

yeah that video is what made me ask the question lol. the pack size reefcleaners says i need is like 300 snails and that just seeems like way way to much.

Umm yea. I usually buy them in batches of ten until I don't see algea or lots of debris. My snails have babies and if the number is too low they survive and grow so I let nature figure that out lol.

In my newest tank I've got about 20 nassuris and 20 dwarf cerith, 4 trochus and 3-4 hermits (blue-legged). I only have 2 mandarins in the tank now, but they CUC seems pretty good so far. I'm trying to stay away from too many hermits and I'm happy with the carnivorous snails so far. As I add more fish, etc. I might add more snails, but like has been said already its best to get too few and add then get way too many have them starve to death.

I just have a standard 20 gallon set up right now, (8.5 years) but the only CUC I have at the moment is a big old Trochus snail. I clean the glass, I clean the sand. When I first started out I was fascinated by all the invertebrates and stuff, (pets) but that ship has sailed. I'm much more efficient at keeping that tank clean then they are. GL.

I actually just added a tiger tail cuke to my cuc today. Will keep posted on progress. Sorry for the blue pic, once day lights turn on will attempt a better shot.

Personally, I dislike snails. They don't really help with the glass, rather they just leave trails all over the place. In my experience, inevitability they fall and always seem to land upsidedown and die. I have a few for interest like bumblebee ones because I think they're cute. I think urchins are super useful. They definitely do more work than a snail. I have a mixture of hermits and avoid large ones.

I agree with what was previously stated about adding as you see a need. I have a 265 gallon and a 30 gallon, and in no way do I have even close to those recommend numbers. Also, I like aquariumdepot.com . They are very reasonable.
