I have this Marineland 38 gallon bow front aquarium as my first reef tank. I was planning on keeping it as stock as I could. I decided to go with a HOB skimmer which is working great so far, now I have an issue with the top.

It comes with this custom double think tempered glass, and they give you a 1-1/2" plastic/rubber piece for the back that I was eventually going to cut for my equipment. But, now the center tempered glass is too wide lay flat because of the skimmer inlet/outlet.

If I just get another piece of glass cut for the center piece, the gap leftover in the back woudl be wide than I wanted to leave open. Is plexi-glass an option?

You could definitely use plexiglass or acrylic, just make sure to be careful removing the current glass from the plastic piece in the middle that holds the lid together, they can oftentimes be glue in there and very hard to get out without breaking the glass.

Thanks. Well getting that piece of glass out wont be a problem, I had to assembly that whole thing myself, it just wedges into the rubber hinge in the middle.
