How can I get more nitrates in aquarium

I have a reefer 170 and just bought a mushroom coral colony its very big and is red heard they do better in dirtier water higher nitrate my tank is at 0 nitrates because I do weekly 5 gallon water changes and have a skinner 300 running on it should I stop frequent water changes or just shut off the skimmer for a few weeeks the tank is around 36 gallons

Test nitrates and maintain 5 to 30 ppm

Should I shut the slimmer off tho or change water changes ?

You can try to feed more, shut skimmer off but make sure you still are getting oxygen in the tank. Other option is dose NO3.

I was able to get calcium nitrate locally but most people seem to use potassium nitrate.
With Calcium nitrate I mixed 12 tablespoons to 1 gallon Rodi. Added 5 ml to tank and tested 24 hours later. I raised dosage and tested daily until I saw a rise. My approach is like dosing alk the first time.

just do what I did and accidently spill a shot glass worth of pellets in your 15g tank so it looked like a snow globe and didn't have any extra water on hand to siphon/do a WC and spend an hour with a pipette trying to suck up the 300 pieces while being bitten by your clown fish

Feed fish more, effective and simple. With 15 fish 5 of them triggers and the smallest being a bicolor blenny 15 cubes a day takes care of any low nitrate issues. Nopox is my friend, along with lots of rocks. This is in a mixed reef going on 5 years.
