When I inherited my tank from someone who basically gave up on the hobby (during covid... No judgment) this angry, skittish, bashful, mostly dead guy came to me. This picture is from after it took WEEKS for just those two polyps to emerge. (I had taken it for dead, pretty aquascape).

well, I did something to scare them back in again, and then hair algae took over. Again, I figured it was dead

Would the tank be large enough for a foxface or a tang? Those fish typically don't eat Duncan coral polyps but they may work on the algae.
Otherwise, a ripclean might help with the algae.
