How Can I Protect Elec Outlet & Mount Stand Flush Against Wall

I am trying to find a solution to a problem I am having that involves tank stand placement and an electrical outlet. Basically there is an outlet right behind where I'm planning to put stand but I want stand to fit flush against the wall.

My question is, has anyone found a way to do this or do you think it would be safe if I just cut an opening where the outlet is, plugged in my power strip, and then boxed out a channel from outlet to control panel? I can seal it with silicone to help keep the moisture from getting through but would that be enough?

You can kind of see the outlet in this photo. If no other ideas are presented I will probably just try boxing it out with the channel for power strip wire and hope for the best. Outlet is about 11inches off from where my control panel is going to be mounted and about 8inches from bottom floor (12in from actual floor - 4" framing)

Change outlet to GFCI and go with your plan.

We do this all the time with kitchen cabinets. Easy peasy...

Remove cover plate
Swap outlet to gfci
Locate and cut hole in back of plywood stand
Set stand in position, fasten to wall/floor as needed
Reinstall cover plate, possibly with longer screws

Agree with previous post. I bought a GFCI plug adapter and routed the line where i needed it versus changing out the box. That said, you can easily change the box out and even do one of those recessed ones for behind TV's.

Just add one of these for protection if you are going to mount the GFCI WR receptacle in your cabinet
