Im running a filter sock setup on my 40 gallon and the over flow is really silent. But where it dumps into the sock there is a lot of noise. gurgling, sloshing etc. How can I get rid of some of the noise? here are some pics of the sock holder alone and with the sock installed.

If you could lower the set up into the water and allow the over flow drain pipe to be submerged with in the filter sock then that would quiet it down alot.

yea had the same problem with mine just extend your pipe til it's in the water it will be almost silent

Best thing to do is to extend the pipe down to about 2" from the bottom. You can use a coupler and a small length of the same diameter PVC. Mark the water line and remove it. Then either cut a slit half way through the pipe with a miter saw about 1/2" below the water line. If you don't have a miter saw use a half inch drill bit to drill 4 or 5 holes around one half of the pipe 1/2" below the water line. When you put it back in, point the opening just under the water line into the corner. This allows the water to go down to the bottom of the sump while most of the air is expelled out the hole. This way you can run it with or without the sock and not have the noise or splashing.
