I just received my testing kit for both of these after I suddenly realized these two are really critical to reef tanks. I checked and the levels were good.

For near-future reference (and for anyone else here who might need the help), how can I raise or lower Alkalinity and Magnesium to get it to their right levels?

Raising Alk can be done several different ways.
Doing regular water changes with a good salt, ie- Reef Crystals
Randals 2 Part DIY
Baking Soda
Lowering Alk can be done several ways also. But Muriatic Acid does a good job. And depending on how high your Alk is, your system can utilize it also.

Magnesium can be raised like Alk can, using a DIY concoction, or store bought agent. Lowering on the other hand, I don't believe can be done with other agents like Alk can. You basically will have to do WC using a salt mix that doesn't mix out high, such as Instant Ocean.

Good advice. Just keep testing your water and dose as needed to keep stable levels.

Thank you for the info! I use nothing but Instant Ocean Reef Crystals in my saltwater.

I'm bookmarking those links. Those will come in handy down the road. Never thought baking soda would be an option for raising alkalinity.
