I have this refractometer that's over 5 years old. Since then, the hinges has rusted and it no longer is as flexible as it used to be. However, I still used it anyways and my reef tank seems to be doing alright.

Is there a way to repair it to its former glory or should I just buy a new one?

Try WD40 then give it a good cleaning afterwards what’s the worst that can happen buy a new one worth a shot I think

Just had this same problem. been away for about 6 yrs. got old stuff out. cover would not move.
Mine had a screw on each side that acted as the hinge. put a drop of oil on screws and removed, cleaned up screws and inside cover area.
Put back together, re calibrated and works great.

What did you use to recalibrate?

You can buy a small bottle of calibration fluid.

I calibrate before every use
