How can this baffle be fixed

I just noticed tonight my baffle was slanted. It is completely detached from the silicone. My sump is still under warranty so I’m hoping I don’t have any trouble getting it fixed.

But how do you empty it while still maintaining life in the tank ? And when it’s fixed, it needs to stay dry for at least 24 hours after siliconing, right ? Can this compromise the tank itself ?

I had a tank custom built and they also built the sump.

It’s even worse if it needs 7 days. How is the tank going to survive ?

Put your heater in the tank and keep your power heads on should be enough

Honestly the easiest and safest fix would be cutting a 1” spacer of acrylic and shoving it down there to straighten it back out.. sucks, but hey… your tank will never skip a beat.

Or what ever that gap measures.. just a strip and wedge it in against the glass and be done:

Never used it so no idea if it works. But I own Red Sea Reefer do I am planning to get a tube as a emergency backup.

Did the baffle come installed with the sump? It doesnt seem to me the baffle is made from glass but acrylic instead. Silicone doesnt stick too well to acrylic and would give up if too much pressure is applied.

Yes, I have two.

Put your heater in the tank and keep your power heads on should be enough

It doesn’t show well on the picture but the glass in the return chamber doesn’t go all the way down. I would have to put a long piece of plastic all the way to the end of the return pump chamber.

Frankly, I paid too much to get such a failed set up. I a, hoping they come fix it.

Yes, it was already in the sump when they came and installed everything.

You are right, the baffle is made from acrylic.

It would have to be 10-15 inches long. Would that still work and what can I use ?

@Troylee beat me to it! I vote spacer!

Edit could make an L shaped piece of acrylic out of a sheet, turn it flat so it fits between the baffles then turn it to sit flush with the exterior of the tank:

One on each side.

Or cut a piece of tubing/pvc and stick it between the baffles (either a short piece in the middle or long pieces on the bottom to reach the very back (would need to be PVC or other rigid tubing for the later)):

Are you sure that isn't a glass baffle with black film on it? If that is acrylic, it matches the rest of the sump and I'd be worried about the entire thing falling apart. That said, I think the baffle is glass with a layer of black on it

The easiest way is just get some some small PVC pipe, chop them up to the same width as the gap and wedge them between the baffles.

Theres no way the silicone will fail like that if the baffle is glass.

And Weldon doesn’t work on glass…silicone is his only option.

Anything plastic and cut it to the size of the gap and wedge it in there.. it will hold up just fine.. pvc coupler would be fine
