So I screwed up nicely today. I was acclimating some cuc (2nd fighting conch. Replacement scarlet +1 , 2 nass and 3 trochus)

using a long slow drip. Put in tank after an hour. And then water change on my Betta tank and finished cleaning and emptying ole leaky qt tank. I did not remove the drip line and completely forgot it ...

hear my returns gurgling a while later “Hmm. That evaporated fast..”

added rodi.

This happened twice.

Then I saw my issue.

Salinity 1.022. From 1.025.

Within 2 hours or so.

Wish me luck

Whoops! Good luck!

You'll be fine, you know what I did once. I wheeled my 32g Brute container into my office to do a water change on my 90g reef. I did the water change, then realized I didn't mix any salt into the container, whoops, about 20g of straight ro water into my reef. I straightened it out and all was fine, a little panic is good sometimes. lol

That fast salinity drop won’t hurt shrimp and others ?
I didn’t immediately add salt because I figured another fast change would be even worse. Just started topping off with it.

Thank you . If anything I’m not as mortified as I sit at work.

That's nothing!:

Well I just had a major event! Was working in the fish room and stopped to take Milo out to go potty. I had my garden hose turned on with the adjustable nozzle hanging on the utility sink. While outside with him the hose slid off the sink and landed in the trigger, spraying up on everything.
The sump, all my electrical and the floor above! Not knowing all this.....I come in and the DT is back syphoning!

I run down stairs to spraying water on everything!

GCFI did it's job and shut off everything. I immediately turned off the hose and pulled all the electrical wires from their outlets. Started drying everything and mopping the floor. Grabbed all the fans in the house and ran extension cords to get them running. Pulled all the outlet covers off to let them dry.

So far everything is drying out and I reset the gcfi's and I have power now. Main return pump is running and I have heaters running. Tested the SG in the system and it's still at 35. Thank God!

I set up my reactor with GAC and it's running now. 25 gallons of saltwater ready in the mixing station.

Everything in the DT looks good. Getting ready to do that water change.
I'm so glad I was home when this happened! Today I'm adding a hook to place the hose nozzle into so this cant happen again!

Happened last week!

I feel much better. Thank you all. I’m constantly testing and so mindful as I continue adding life. Thank you thank you

Which ones did you read? It's mentioned a dozen times or so in the paper on acclimation at the top of the list. ;)
Acclimation White Paper

There can also be significant differences between the salinity and temperatures and alkalinity of the shipping water and the system water in which the animal is to be introduced.
Our observations while diving on many reefs world wide, combined with a great deal of literature, and our in house observations have proven to us that fish can adapt to changes in salinity quickly and safely;
I continuously saw ‘clines’ of pH, salinity, and temperature.

Etc.....check it out!!! (I left out all the context.) ;Bookworm
