I have no idea when it comes to electrical stuff, but I want to wire an auto water changer. Not completely automatic, as I'd set it up weekly, but automatic enough. Bucket #1 fills with tank water, the float switch activates, it turns the pump on (which is in bucket #2) and new water is sent into the tank. Im thinking the plug sends electricity to the pump and the float switch acts as an interuppter?
Would the pump I chose be okay for water?

I'd be filling the buckets and plugging it in myself once a week. Small space so I cant have much kit out full-time :)

No.

You can not plug a 12 volt pump into a 230 volt outlet.

Absolutely DO NOT use that pump. It is designed for Petroleum products, it will CORRODE in salt water. There is a reason why nearly all the pumps we use today in Marine applications are made of plastic with ceramic shafts, those can't rust!!

Pretty much but I would use a regular aquarium pump and use the float switch to operate a relay, not power the pump directly

Okay, good to know :grinning-face-with-sweat: I was also thinking of using a car battery or a ac/dc converter?
