How deep of a sand bed?

For burrowing animals, such as pistol shrimp and or gobies, how deep of a sandbed do i need? Would 2 inch be enough?

Yes, 2 inches is enough. That’s what I have right now. I used to have 3 inches but removed some as it was a little too much.

What's too much? Did you think it looked unappealing and gave your tank issues, too much maintenance?

Kind of depends on the critter....

Pistol Shrimp, couple inches reputedly...
Jawfish, I think recommend at least 3"

I'd also suggest if you want burrowing critters, to use a gradient/mix of particulate sizes...and have small fragments and shell to add as they need.

(48x18) you think 100# of ocean direct should be fine? i think itl give 2 1/4" give or take a few

Sounds about right, but check the bags.. I ordered original grade and rcvd oolite.

I think BRS and some others have a calculator
