I am working on a new stand and I can not decide how to finish it. I have always painted mine white in the past. I like white because it does not show spills like black. Now that it's time for a new stand I am trying to decide which way to go this time. It's going to be 4x2 so I think that's just to much white. I am also considering specialty finishes like chalkboard paint and stone spray paint. Anyways, how did you all finish your stands?

In years past I ahve done several stands with the speckel, granite looking finish and they turned out quite nice. I have also done gloss black and plain old pine.
My present system is all oak plywood and solid oak trim stained in a light oak then 5 coats of exterior satin spar varnish so it matches the cabinets in the house and blends in.

I finished mine in oak plywood and oak trim stained with Jacobean stain and then put a urethane over the top of it. Looks great!

My new favorite product is the Never-Wet from rustoleum! It keeps the finish perfect no matter how much salt gets onto the stand...in the past a stained cabinet and coat of poly would just rub through and the saltwater would "bleach" the stain color...not sure why, but now, nothing penetrates the stand....I coat all sides inside and out with the never-wet.
