How do acans grow more polyps?

Small amounts every other day allows for appropriate digestion. Gorge and purge. But it is not mandatory to be even that frequent; some energy is collected through photosynthesis as well.

I fed mine per advise I got here and it killed mine. Ive talked to others just let it get its nutrients from the water or whatever you might dose it with

Acans are what I consider one of the least maintenance type of corals. In-direct feeding from food or poop from fish and if you're not too lazy once in a while ... target feed it some small meaty chunks of silverside, shrimp, brine shrimps, krill etc. High nutrients type of tanks are ideal for this corals too.

Acan'll sprout tiny babies on the underside of the main polyps.

I feed mine every other day light feeding tho they all seem to be big and happy and all have lots of babies i bought a two polyp frag of skittles 2 months ago now i have 12 heads some are baby heads tho but most are big

bumping and reviving an old thread
should i just drill a hole into some rock and countersink the acan frag n plug into the rock? that way it encrusts rather than create its own skeleton?

Just glue the plug on the rock. Acan will eventually grow over it. I have never fed an acan and all of mine have grown nicely. I have read if you over feed the soft tissue grows faster than the skeleton and could end up bad. No experience with this myself but a thought worth sharing.

thanks

That is good to hear. I think its more of an issue and you feed them to grow polyps faster and then try to frag them. Basically soft tissue needs a skeleton.

I glued a few of mine to LR but I left them there for a few weeks prior to gluing them to make sure they were happy. Some of them are not bigger then the plug yet so I'm spot feeding krill every other day. They fish also go crazy for it so it's a double whammy for my fatties. I'm over feeding just a bit for now because my OCD kicks in whenever I see the drag plug. Once the acan is bigger then the plug, I'll reduce.. So far, it's working out.

I agree with the consensus, I feed 1x per week or whenever I remember LOL
I have 3 lords, the reds grow like weeds and the other two are slow growers.

just bumping the old thread. I have just started feeding acans (8 soft heads) reef roids/paste couple of times a week. would I still need to feed them krill too?
