I have a type of leather (maybe mushroom) that is attached with a string through it to hold it to the pod. My questions are; #1: how do I attach it to a rock in my tank and #2: what type is it? So I know better how to care for it. Thank you in advance!

Leathers work well in all sorts of conditions but they need a good among of flow to remove shedding when it happens. Hard to ID without polyp extension but give it a few days

I've had it about a week, no extensions have showed yet, but it definitely looks like it should. It gets bumps. Glad I at least did right with the high flow area.

Should I take it off the one I bought it on a try to attach it to one in my tank? It doesn't look like the bottom is doing to best.

I wouldn't. Leave it where you have it, (medium to higher flow) see if it eventually opens up/gets more acclimated. If /when it does, i would simply attach the disk it appears to be on to rock with some two part coral putty.

Dont cut the stalk. Its still acclimating.
Itll be comfy when it shows polyps and is more extended or fluffy depending on the polpys that come out of it. Lol.
Give it some time. Soft leather corals are hardy and can take 1-2weeks to get comfy depending on the tank water its in.
Check salinity. It will get used to urnlight schedule as the days go on and it will open up. Give time.
