How do I clean my Protein Skimmer?

So its past the break in period and gunk is built up on the neck and on the cone where it spills into the cup. So how can I heat up my freshwater for cleaning and is any toothbrush fine (its new)? Thank you.

I dont do anything but take a bottle brush to it under running water in the sink

+1 bottle brush and in the laundry sink nothing more to it

+1 on keep it simple.
Algae sponge and rinse with hose.

If you run hot water over it to clean it ( I dont) make sure you run cold water on it to get all the heat out. The parts grow in size when heated and wont go back together easily.

I use a couple paper towels in the kitchen sink. The wife wasn't too happy the first time I did that. She has since become resigned to it. I do rinse the sink well and then run the disposal with a little Dawn to deodorize it after.

Yup, I use the brush and hot water to clean it also. Seems to work fine.

I stopped cleaning mine since it seems to take forever to get it back to normal after a cleaning.
