How do I control this stuff? I have brown and green.

What is this algae? I thought it was hair algae but it’s kind of...not hairy? I’m not sure. It’s on the rocks and my snails clean it in rounds, just following it as it grows. It’s all over the sand though. I suck up what I can on weekly water changes but it’s slowly getting worse week to week.

It is only 6 weeks old. I got 75lbs live rock from the LFS, and they sent a truck with water from the store. They set it up and put in turbo-start so it cycled in less than a week. I got a bloom of detritus and the numbers have been basically perfect ever since. The algae though....the algae...

I have 1 hermit, 30 snails, 3 emerald crabs and a cleaner shrimp. They are all getting fat and happy the shrimp has molted almost weekly and the crabs are visibly growing.

I would recommend you to syphon as much as you can when you do water change. And use poly filter as mechanical filter and I would recommend you to use media reactor with phospate remover. Also, reducing light may help. I had similar issue with my one and half year old tank and did what I recommended here and got rid of the mess from my tank. Hope it gets better soon

That's a massive CUC (but I can see why you might have use for them for the time being). I have ~5 snails (no hermits), 1 coral banded shrimp, and an emerald in a 36 gal. You're gonna have uglies for a while so best to be patient and limit feedings (small amounts every other day, if food hits the bottom, it's too much) for the first year or so. As one ugly gives way to another, just be patient and keep up on water changes as well as testing (alk/cal/no3/po4 as a base).
