Oh yea “The ugly stage” we all go thru it. Completely normal and no matter how often you stir the sand it will come right back. You can put in a conch snail and it will clean the sand for you along with the goby. But like everyone has said it will pass as the tank matures.

Possibly stop siphoning the sand. By turning over the sand, new surfaces are being exposed for algae to grow on.

By the way, why are you siphoning the sand of a new aquarium with such a light bioload?

keep it stable . You will be st the end of this phase in no time. Then, plenty of nassarius and a fighting conch.

Diatoms which will sometimes occur in new tanks but also in long established. And no snails do nothing for diatoms other than maybe sand sifters like nassarious or conch. Just get in there and lightly stir the sand around (preferably with vacuum) will help along with good tank params. Before I added a chiller, I used to see it in summer when tank got warmer.
