Hard to tell from lighting but looks like typical film algae. Certain snails will eat it but to be honest, it’ll never go away. It’s just something we live with. No algae = no corals.

look at the back rock that was the live piece I used to seed the tank, it looks like gha to you?

Maybe. Hard to see. It looks like you could manually remove it though. You can pull out the rock. Vibrant has helped me keep GHA under control.

this is a new tank setup 12/28/19, can I also try reef flux? I was thinking this is a new tank syndrome? Maybe add some trochus or turbos?

It’s always good to have a clean up crew. But I have to be honest, snails won’t clean up all the algae. They just eat some of it. I doubt they’ll touch GHA.

i have both reef flux and vibrant how much you suggest I dose if I do decide to use one? You don’t think this is a ugly stage of a new tank?

I’ve never used reef flux. For vibrant, if you want to use, follow the instructions. I use less than the recommended dose once a week. It takes a few weeks to notice a difference. So don’t add more thinking it’s not working. But in a new tank, I wouldn’t risk it. New tanks go through the uglies phase and usually everything in there will be replaced by something else that outcompetes it.

maybe GFO in a mesh bag?
Test your PO4 first. Since you have corals in there, you don’t want your PO4 to bottom out. Do you have any pics with lights on? Honestly, don’t freak out over a little algae and nuke your tank. In saltwater tanks, it’s a part of the game. Many people have refugiums growing macro algae so that they can outcompete the unwanted algae. There are also algae scrubbers and other things you could do.

Here is my phosphate test, with my Hanna check it’s at over 200ppb on the ULR checker

Turbo snails can help keep it away once it is gone or knocked down but they won’t rrr Er move it.

A sea hare will clean every bit of that in a week. I have bought them at my LFS for $20 and sell it back for $10 store credit. It’s like renting a lawnmower for a couple weeks. It works great. And They are really interesting animals.

If your LFS doesn’t have any you can order online and then pass it on to another hobbies or your LFS.

They eat a lot and can eat nori, but are hard to keep long term and will foul your tank if they die. So use with caution.

Update: I dosed my tank with Flucanozole to treat the algae with 4 capsules enough to treat 40 gallons. I dosed yesterday and will wait until 7-10 days and see how things go. So far I have seen the worst rock loosing some of the hair algae. Just gonna continue to feed and run my lights. Will perform a water change after 7-10 days.
