i find myself trying to keep my alk stable especially with the trident and dos by making small adjustments everytime i see it go above or below the desired number. I feel im chasing numbers and possibly will cause more harm than good doing so... How can i stop this all together?

As already said, just check it once a week and then adjust the dosing

As others have said, test less frequently. Also, another approach may be to change your target. I had loads of issue keeping things stable in the 10/11dkh range (I'd always just end up getting precipitation). I switched to a lower alk salt and began targeting 8/8.3 and it's been much easier to keep alk very stable.

How would i change my target and how long would i test to know its a stable number?

Pick a new number. Usually you pick what your salt mixes at as ur target but that is not totally necessary.
What I mean is something like this: Pretend you are aiming for 10dkh currently but having trouble keeping that stable. Well over 2 or 4 weeks you could slowly let it reduce to 8dkh and try to keep that stable at 8 once u get there. It may be easier to maintain stable 8dkh than to maintain stable 10dkh depending on ur aquarium.
