How do I keep the snail shells from looking ugly?

I'm sorry, I'm also watching youtube videos, r/cursed comments and etc. Younjusy made yourself an easy target. May your snails be fabulous and chic.

I don't see anything ugly about them?

Here is my fav snail I have... has a little garden growing. A little mini planet.

You read my mind!
is this really necessary? I’ve been bullied on a different forum and it was the worst feeling ever. I would never encourage name calling. There are much more effective ways to get you point across.

The reason they look so clean at the store is because they are shipped
And kept with a bunch of other snails. There isn’t any algae on the plastic bag and they aren’t fed so…… Larry the snail’s beautiful algae hair doo looks like a great meal for sally the snail. Get enough herbivores together and don’t feed
Them and shells will get cleaned.

Didn’t call anybody anything.

I was looking for an answer (like yours) but some people just didn't go straight to the point but were like "stop complaining and accept it for what it is". Sorry if my assumption was wrong by the way.

its difficult to compare the ocean with a glass cube filled with water .
but as others said generally speaking if your tank has a high algae build up then it would be reflected on the shells .

I was wondering how in the stores and ocean their shells look so good but as soon as they ended up in my tank they became ugly?

Maybe change your mind about what looks “bad”. Maintaining healthy critters is the ultimate goal.

if you didn't tell me I would've never known that that's a snail .

umm so what’s unhealthy about this snail? It’s been with me 7 years lol

That’s what an old snail in a mature tank looks like. Covered in diversity and coralline… not harmful.

@Dan_P was not talking about you. He was talking about the authors original post. :)

He was saying that it’s more important to care for the well-being of animals than to care about their shells.

What if your name is actually Karen?

But on the main topic...

Snails in the wild are often hiding. They have predators up the rear end. They hide until night to forage and spawn. Once they get in our aquariums. They are peaking around and exploring "who is going to eat me?" Once they figure out they are safe, they are out and about in the light and grazing day and night. That is what causes the algae to grow. As they are no longer hiding in shaded rock work during the day for protection.

I hope that makes some sense.
