How do I kill brown button polyps? My 90 gal is getting overrun.
I really don't want to start removing and replacing rock.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks.....Ron

With extreme prejudice!!!

Try a metal brush to scrub the rock and maybe some epoxy to cover it up. After a thorough scraping, if there are any bits left, they will come back. Unfortunately, what ends up happening will be eventual rock replacement. :(

If you can remove the rock, do that, scrub it and remove as much of the polyps as you can. PLEASE wear protection as the palytoxin in them is no joke. Once you are done rinse the rock in some saltwater from a water change and put it back in the tank.

Honestly, since you don't want to replace the rock; your best bet is to saw/chisel away the portions that are covered in these...
Even then you're not guaranteed to fully eradicate them.

I know it's not what you wanted to hear, but it is what it is.
These things are poisonous weeds that will spring up anywhere if you let one polyp grow unchecked...

I also have many and have started replacing the rock. I have broken up some rock that had other coral on it and plan to buy a few larger base rocks when I have all the polyps gone.
