My alk is 8.3 and calc is 490 mag is 1230 . I tested all with salifert and re-tested and got the same reading.

Do I manually dose mag to maintain a good balance?

If so, is there a recipe to make your own mag supplement? Thanks!

Using aquaforest reef salt at 35 ppt w/ 10@ WC weekly

1230 ppm mag is a good number just maintain it by dosing mag as needed to keep it there. Your alk and calcium will naturally balance themselves out.

I just switched to the ESV mag to complete the ESV two part. But prior to that I used the BRS magnesium because it was cheap for the amount of dosing solution you get. Never had a gripe about it. Did what it was suppose to do. It's a mix of mag sulfate and mag chloride, you can get the exact amounts of each to use right off BRS.

If the tank is small enough (under 100 gallons) I would recommend supporting your favorite LFS and using Aquavitro ions, it is what I use on my 29 in conjunction with kalk. I like it just because its already mixed and not too pricey, 7.99 for a 350 ml bottle and lasts me several months. If its bigger and your going to be using more, I would get the stuff from brs.

80 gallon total system volume, and I like the idea of supporting my LFS
