I was looking at some zoas at the shop today and I noticed they're attached to frag plugs. Can they be taken off?

Some corals can be taken off plugs and reattach to live rock easily.. Zoas/Palys are a bit harder to reattach than say a SPS or corals with stoney skeletons that take to super glue gel. You can leave them on the plug and allow them to cover it in time.

What type of plug are they on? I take a pair of Dykes and nibble at the ceramic plug's until they break apart and the coral usually comes off clean. I use small soft tip tweezers to attach them to the rock work. I agree. I hate seeing coral plugs in my tanks. It just doesn't look natural. I use Ecotech elements coral glue. If you can remove the rock and dry off the spot your gonna attach the frag to, it will stick alot easier and faster.

Just be as gentle as possible. Touching the coral wont kill it. I always use small tweezers and try to grab it at the skeletal base. There are some videos online about fragging corals.

Thanks for the help! Also, does it need to be glued if it can stay be placed in a stable spot?

Hey, it depends on what kinda plug it is. Some you can chisel under the zoa and do whatever you want too it. The zoa will not die, but the toxin they release is very very very poisonous too humans so be sure to wear gloves. If you have any qustions let me no, helping people is fun too me!

Thanks for the help! I really appreciate it! :) How toxic are the toxins? Enough to make me sick? Or will they kill my fish?

I dont think they affect fish but if enough gets in your system youll have fast heart beat, feel very cold and then sweat. Not trying to scare ya just teach you
