Yup. If your Apex is working on your home network, just copy all of the connection info (IP, port, username and password, etc.) into the setup on your iPhone and it should automatically pick it up.

Make sure your ip address on your apex is static not dhcp, otherwise you will be inputting a new ip address a lot. also, setup port forwarding in your router for whatever port you designated for port forwarding in your apex (found in your network page of your apex)

I am able to view my tank on my iphone when i am on my wifi at home but when i go outside it does not work?

Been suffering for with this issue for a month. Wish I was tech savy enough to figure it out. There's plenty of info on the Neptune Sponsor Section on the other forum though. You need to assign a static ip address to your apex with your router so that it won't change on you monthly.. I can't get into details, mostly because I don't understand them:squigglemouth:

To be able to access your apex outside your home network you need a static ip address or a domain name(simulated static ip). You can do this free through dyndns.org. You create an account through them, giving your home network it's own host name like r2r.dyndns-free.com. Then in your aquanotes, create a new controller, in the ip address space type in your new host name xxxx.dyndns-free.com, input the the port number you forwarded through your router, your login information and let aquanotes do it's thing...you should be able to access your apex anywhere you have cellphone service and most wifi networks...keep in mind some free Internet cafes you may not be able to access your apex due to security reasons, but just disable wifi and access through your phone line if this happens.

You can actually log into your apex from anywhere on a web browser by typing in your hostname:port, for example say your hostname is r2r.dyndns-office.com and you forwarded port 7612 to your apex, you would simply type

r2r.dyndns-office:7612

Into your browser, then you should be prompted to log in to your apex and you cam make whatever changes you want to.

Have fun,
Brandon

You can also find your public address by going to What Is My IP Address - Shows Your IP Address from a computervon your home network. Then you need to forward the Apex port (default is 80) to your Apex. For instance, on my crappy Linksys router, it's under the Applications and Games page. Tell it what IP you want to forward the traffic to and what port. This basically opens the firewall from outside allowing port 80 into your home network from outside.

That won't work in the long run. Your home IP may be the same for several months but it will change eventually and you're going to have to do it all over again. You home IP may change daily in some cases, though, and you can get a new IP just by resetting your router as well.

The proper way to do it is what the previous poster stated. Set up your account on Dyndns.org, run it through there, and you're all set. I have to click an email link once every month or two to keep my free account active but it's easy.

Works fine for me...but I have a static IP at home. I would suggest you ask your provider if they charge for it. Mine does it for free, but I know some will charge $5 a month, which is stupid cause it's just a simple, one time configuration of a reservation on the dhcp scope

Also if you host through dyndns or any other free domain name service, either set up ip updating through your router, mine had dedicated section specifically for dyndns or download the ip updater and install it. That way when your ISP changes your ip address you don't have to worry about updating it in your domain profile...infact you'll never have to worry about your ip address again, just type in your domain name and voila your in your home network or whatever other network you host on you domain server. Of course I am referring to the external ip address assigned by your ISP, not the internal ip that you might of or might not of set.

btkrausen - yeah, your static IP service makes all the difference in the world, bro. If my provider did that, I wouldn't need a dyndns account. I'm not paying for something that should be free, though. On top of that, though, I think that a dynamic IP on your home address is probably a good thing. Reduces the possibility of malicious attacks and all...

bct15 - dead on. I have mine set up so that I can just use my .dyndns.org address and access my Apex from anywhere in the world.

Haha. I've been in IT for over 10 years now, and my network at home is probably way more simple than everyone else's. Once you do it for work everyday, networking and IT related stuff is the last thing I want to think about at home. Haha
