How do I transfer my foxface to my display

Fish is in a QT without LR, then just corner him with the plastic container. Wear gloves if you're worried about being stung. My foxface runs for cover when ever I am in the tank, he is pretty big but I would be able to corner him using two plastic containers. You could use the net to drive him to the plastic container, but using another plastic container would be optimal to avoid spines getting caught in the net. They do panic when being transferred, so remove any pvc or rock work in the qt to assist you. If needed drain the water level down into a separate container. How big is the QT?
It's a nightmare if the spines do get stuck, nothing like trying to cut a fish out of water with poisons spines from a net. I have even had clowns get stuck in netting. Do not like nets, and never use them any more.

A square colander, recommended by Humblefish, works well to catch most fish. Works well in the tank corners. You can use a net to herd. That way you can leave almost all the QT water behind. I have a round one too that fits in a matching bowl. I use it to transport fish from the QT area to the DT. Catch with the square then lift out of the bowl of water with the round into the DT leaving the transfer water behind. Just be sure to match QT salinity and temperature on the transfer day. PH just has to be close.

You can drain 90% of the water out of the quarantine tank which will make it much easier to catch in a plastic container. However, the white nets are tighter knitted and much less likely to snag on the spines. I've worked at a wholesaler and caught hundreds of Foxface Tang's with a net and never had to cut one out. Now triggers, that's another story.

I agree with drainning the water a bit, not 90% but maybe 50? reason being that foxfaces CAN jump out when cornered. Mine jumped out of the display when I was trying to catch another fish and spook him a little. larger fish sustain more damage falling from a jump than smaller fish. Luckily mine resumed eating after 2 weeks, thought he was a goner.
My foxface is in his new home. The transfer went easily with a Tupperware. He is hiding, spines extended, his color splotchy gray, white and black- but that is what I expected him to do initially. Thank you so much for the help.

How did your foxface do? I just got a juvenile and he doesn't look happy in QT. He hid all night behind the rock, black and white, spines extended. Wife just sent me a picture of it swimming kind of vertical in the corner , up and down. Still black and white, spines extended. Is it okay???

Draining most of the tank, when you can, and using specimen containers has been the easiest for me.
As for the net... yeah, I made the huge mistake of moving my Niger Trigger with a net. It was fun trying to get him out of that. No damage though, alive and healthy.

I have seen at least one do exactly what your describing for weeks before they seemed comfortable. That fish is now doing very well 4 months later. I think you are OK but I would prefer someone with more experience with them to comment.

Reach down and grab it by the spines, you and the fish will both love it
. Sorry, couldn't resist. Seriously though, you could try a DIY fish trap method with a bottle or container and simply wait for the fish to go in.
