How do Torches reproduce?

I just saw a 1 inch piece of a tentacle from my yellow torch floating around my tank. I don't think that this is how they reproduce, but it does have me thinking.

My torch is currently huge for my Reefer 170, I really don't have room for another one!

I've also wondered if LPS can spontaneously frag themselves this way, but I have never seen one of these fragments survive.

They normally grow and split new heads from their skeleton.

Branching torches split, but i'm sure you knew that.

I've accidentally slurped frogspawn and hammer tentacles in one of those long coral feeder (turkey baster) things. (I use it to blow off the rocks when i'm bored). Nothing happens to the coral damage wise that I can see and they stay out and happy.

I've seen it once or twice floating around as well but my frogspawn is fairly close to my power head and eventually develops a long sweeper that gets sucked in after a month or so.

I have heard of polyp bail out as a possible means of relocating but this would not apply to a tentacle. It is probably something that picked on it.

I would remove it since it can still sting other corals if it were to land on them. I have seen that with a tip of hammer coral landing on an anemone.
