So i moved my tomato clown to my dt and tried matching eveeything but he looked like he was in really bad shape for the past 3 days. At 1 point he even turned black and when he was in my qt he was all over the place but now he is in a hige tank he is behind the rocks only. Moving forwars should I acclimate the rest of my fish to my DT?

This is how i transferred my tomato clown- i used a little bucket and put DT water in it, then put some qt water in it and then picked him up and placed it in the bucket, then netted him out and placed him in the DT. Not sure what i did wrong but he was doing really bad but looks better today.

My method has worked well for me, but it more time consuming. I make sure the qt water matches the dt in temp, salinity, and ph. Then I will simply do a drip acclimate for a short time (using qt water in a bucket with fish and then drip), maybe a half hour.

The key for me has been an acclimation chamber inside the dt. I use an acrylic box and place the new fish inside it with some pvc to hide. Then I place in the dt for at least 12 hours. I try also to introduce at night. Sometimes I just turn the lights out and do it during the day (depends on my schedule).

This lets the other fish check out the new guy when the new guy cannot be hurt and has some hiding places. Time in the chamber depends on how others are acting and the fish itself is acting.

I use my display water to qt so they are already acclimated when I put them in. I usually move them over at night. If I anticipate problems, I use an acclimation box as well. Which for me is a gallon clear water jug with netting on two sides.

I agree with this except for the drip acclimation. If the temperature, salinity and pH are the same then there is no reason not to add the fish directly to the DT from the QT. I would think there would be less stress.

The thing is i matched everything and my tomato clown looked like he was about to die for the first 3 days so Im worried about doing the same thing to my other fish tht I have to transfer.

As long as it works n my fish arent as stress as I did it before Im willing to try it. I will for sure try the shirt drip acclimation with my next fish which will prob. Be my porc. Puffer or niger trigger n hopefully it all goes well.

Yes, now that my dt is disease free I will be using my DT water to qt any new additions!

If you have the big three parameters that same, you should be okay to just use a box to separate for a while and put the fish directly into dt. I tend to have a difference in temp (2 degrees or so) that I like to drip for. My qt is in a completely different area of the house, so I like the drip acclimate to get water the same. Sometimes if I am using tank water to do water changes on qt, I do not have to drip acclimate.

With a larger fish, my box will not work (too small). I have not had to do that in quite some time as I like the smaller fish. I would however make sure in my situation my wrasse was tucked into bed before adding a newby.
