How do we buy coral??

Welcome to Reef2Reef! In addition to your local stores and frag swaps, there are live sales here as well as a marketplace section. Can you tell us about your tank or plans for a tank?

Welcome to Reef2Reef! There are several options out there for you to buy coral I'll list a few...
1st- Your lfs otherwise known as local fish store
2nd- Online Vendors
3rd- Local Reefers who sell their corals
4th- Frag Swaps
5th- If you already have corals you can always trade
6th- If you mean specifically this site then under the marketplace.
Those are the most common ways people get corals for their reef tanks, good look with your adventure!

Find a vendor. Give your left arm and sign over any unborn children and then in return you get one polyp with a really fancy name.

Seriously initially i think a local hobbyist(craigslist, forums like these l, etc) is the best source if you can find it. A LFS is always an option too, just remember depending on the store they might know exactly zero about what they are selling.

Online is a great option in my opinion, but not usually initially just cause you want to start with cheap stuff and just a couple to see how they do. That scenario makes the shipping cost seem unreasonable.

No matter where you buy them find out what they are and make sure they make sense for your tank and goals. Post pics or names here and people more than willing to help.

Good advice.
Hi, Welcome!

Hi. Welcome. I've mostly been buying my corals from people selling on Facebook and the sales section of this forum. I find you can usually get much better prices buying from hobbiests instead of businesses.
Although I recently participated in a live sale on here and will be buying from more of them in the future.

How do I buy coral??
I’ve been happy with purchases from local fish stores and online. Just be sure to have a plan about what kind of corals you want rather than buying spur of the moment. There are some really good vendors online. Top Shelf Aquatics, AquaSD, A Reef Creation...the list is long but those are my top three that come to mind.

There are some great live sales on this forum but it’s very easy to get carried away. Lol

On the black market! Where i get my brains and kidneys! Lol
D

I'd say find a local fish store that you can trust. Im fortunate to have 3-4 really places close to me. Local reefers that have some exceptional tanks that sell or trade frags. Quality online vendors. For me online... I only buy from world wide corals. They're only 2.5 to 3 hours away so the transit time is rather short. They stand behind their product.
