I fragged some zoas and palys for a swap and my colonies closed up. They didn't like it. I was dosing some iodide and this may be the cause of irritation. However, they have reddish brown tips and closed polyps. Some are melting. :(

The reddish covering is not cyano, maybe a fungus?

Any tips or techniques to prevent a loss would help. I will be doing successive water changes.

Bump. I have some high end zoas I want to frag but I'm afraid of melting. Any tips? Answer the above post first please :)

when I frag anything after I cut I put in a med-high flow it keeps the cut clean so they wont "rot"

Add a capfull of hydrogen peroxide in a small dish and let them sit for about 5 minutes. This has helped prevent melting for me before.

After fragging zoas I always place them in high flow and low to medium light. If they do not shows signs of opening the following day they get dipped in a strong iodine solution for about 5 seconds then places back into high flow and low to medium light.
