How do you clean your filter socks, specifically the mesh kind. I have the red sea mesh 225 micron filter socks, and am having a hard time throughly cleaning them I am hesitant to use bleach. Any advice/tips?

Rinse them out, inside out, into the washing machine. Or into a 1/2 bucket of bleach, when full of socks, into washing machine.

Bleach. Plain and simple.

Just let them sit in the air to dry for a couple days before use. Bleach gasses off pretty quickly. Been using bleach on my felt socks for years.Never had any issue because of it.

I have read of people using oxyclean, and have tried it, but I think bleach works better.

My setup for washing filter socks is a 5G bucket with very strong bleach(like 50/50 mix of tap water and bleach). Then after a couple weeks(I have plenty of socks lol) I get a full bucket. Dump them in the washing machine on a normal cycle. After washing machine, hang to dry for a couple days. Then put them into use.

Again, I've been washing them this way for many years with 0 issue.

I run felt socks.
I rinse off with high pressure hose and then soak in 1 gallon of tap water and 1/4 cup of h202 @ 34%.
They come out white every time and then let air dry.
I do not like bleach and 34% h202 is reef safe.

I’ve heard that mesh socks are much easier to clean than felt socks. Most people seem to rinse them thoroughly and let dry. I don’t know if you need to use bleach on mesh.

Lay mine on the sidewalk blast with high pressure hose inside and out . Air dry. Dont care if they are white. Just need to see all the junk come out.

I place the felt socks on a broom handle after spraying inside of sock. Then spray with a high pressure hose. Then throw them in the wash with two caps of bleach. Then soak them in a bucket of rodi water with a product called safe. Then let them dry.

Felt sox... and I've got a bunch of them. Keep a bucket of clean, and a bucket of dirty. How do I clean them? Hand the full bucket of dirty sox to my wife once a month or so. She runs it through the laundry, hot water, bleach, no detergent... double rinse, no dryer, and gives 'em back. I spread 'em around and let 'em dry for a day, and put 'em back in the clean bucket.

Easy.

I rub them vigorously between my hands while running hot water over them. I occasionally bleach them as well.

I have felt socks and first spray them off with a hose, then soak them in a 5 gallon pail with bleach and water and finally soak them in another 5 gallon pail with prime to remove the chlorine
