How do you deal with....

The only thing I have had work for me was a matted file fish.
I tried all of the chemical products ( for years), tried berghias, ( worked somewhat in smaller tanks), tried peppermmint shrimp ( never worked at all).
I bought a matted file fish and put it in my 240 which had hundreds of majano's and aptasias. I thought this was a bust too, because I didn't see any difference after a month. But a little after that, I noticed a area that didn't have any, then other areas, and by the end of 2-1/2 months I couldn't find any majanos or aptasias.
I moved the file fish into another tank that had a small problem and he cleared them out. I left the fish in that tank for 4-5 months, just to be sure. Then I moved it to my 240 sump which had a pretty good population of majanos in the chaeto. He is still there.
So it's been a year and I did find one aptasia and one majano, which I just moved the small rock they were on into the sump and the let the file fish eat them.
Not bad for a $25 fish.
I easily spent 10x that amount in out cures that didn't work for me.

I typically use lemon juice.

However, my adult son recently broke down his tank and dropped off all his rock at my house. It was covered with aptasia. I had an empty JBJ28 sitting around so I set that up. Since there were so many in a relatively small tank, I didn’t want to use lemon juice. I would have ended up with a tank of lemonade. So I put RO/DI water in a coffee cup and nuked it to a boil and then squirted 2 – 5 mls of scalding water on the little buggers. Worked fairly well. Had to repeat to a couple of tough ones who were buried in the rock.

Copperband butterfly got rid of mine. Peppermint shrimp worked also but my Bangaii cardinal eats shrimp so I can't keep them anymore.

Matted File Fish - works great but once the aptasia is gone they seem to have the tendency to nip at corals like zoas, acans and such

Peppermint Shrip- hit or miss

Aptasia X- Works great if you can get to the rock

worst case senerio , pull the rock and nuke it.

I've personally had great results with peppermint shrimp.... Some will say hit or miss, but I've had great luck with These little guys! I keep 6 in my 75 gallon display and 2 or 3 in my 30 gallon sump/refugium.

I haven't tried this yet, but I read an article the other day that about natural ways to get rid of them. Two corals that have worse stings than aiptasia are Elegance Corals and Hydnophora. You can place either one right next to Aiptasia and it will kill it. I have some of both. I am seriously considering making a movable frag of hydnophora and when needed, I will move it right beside the Aiptasia (as long as nothing else is within stinging distance). I've had success with lemon juice and Ultra Life Aiptasia Remover.

I used a thick slurry of Kalk in a syringe....injected the paste right into the mouth of the aiptasia and mojano, it worked fairly well, but I see I need to do something again as I have had some regrowth.

Here's the problem, it's a 29 gallon tank and there's only two on an issolated rock.

So that being said a fish is just not an option. To small.

If the rock is isolated can you take it out? If so, take it out and inject hydrogen peroxide or club soda into their holes. rinse with a little tank water and wahlah!

2 in a 29, I'd go for one of the chemical methods.

Kalk paste. Cover them completely, leave on for 10-15 minutes ( all flow off) and syphon off.

If it's an isolated rock I'd get it out and nuke it. But, I am prejudice. I know I'm not supposed to hate, but I hate aiptasia!

Yeah, I guess this would be better. If it is possible to take it out and deal with it by what ever means.
I personally don't think club soda would do much, but ????????

I'm used to dealing with large pieces in a very established tanks that would make removing the rock not possible.
