Hey. Sadly, one of my clownfish jumped out of my tank. So I plan on adding a new one for my other one. How do you introduce a new clownfish into the tank? Thank you!

Hi! My clown isn't hosting an Anemone and is pretty small. I don't have exact size of it, but I know it's not fully grown. It is a black snowflake clown. I'll attach a photo. I'm looking to maybe try to get another clown of the same type or a domino or whatever my LFS has. But I'm trying to look for one of the same color as the one I have.

My clown jumped out as well and the next day I picked up another one. The original one followed the new one around for a day or two then everything went back to normal

Did you get one of the same type or different?

You can mix clowns but ultimately it comes down to one will be the dominant female and the other will become the smaller male. Sometimes the female can be aggressive/territorial. so it’s best to get them together while they’re young, before dominance and sex are established.

I did have a pair that were together when they were young, and they weren't even big enough to know which was the female, but one of them today jumped out and died, so I want to find the other a new pair. I plan on picking one that's closer to the same size or smaller since it's still so young.

I have read good things about using acclimation boxes. Otherwise I think it’s a 50/50 chance that they pair up and get along. Going with similar size and type does help IME

Okay. Thank you! I think I might try the box in hopes they'll get along. I hope my LFS has one of the same type

Yeah. I'm thinking of upgrading to an innovative Marine 40 gal since it comes with a lid and I can put my light and heater on/in my filter. So it'll be easier.
Nice. I recently discovered the diy marketplace here and I saw someone that sells 3D print out and kits for screen lids. I might try on my next build. So many resources here;Bookworm

hi sorry had to step away,i would recommend the same b/w domino will trigger yours slim odds ,best advice i can give make sure new one is a little larger than one you have ,best chance of pairing and survival ,pretty clown btw best of luck

How exciting! And maybe a lid at some point too huh haha
I do have a lid, but she just about squeezed herself through a space. I'll have to edit the lid so it doesn't happen again. But the 3D print outs sound pretty awesome!

No worries! You think the domino will trigger it? And how come a bigger sizes one? And thank you! I really love the black snowflake clowns

yes i believe the b/w snow will aggressivly attack black ,larger b/w into new tank will be not as aggressive ,and yours will tend to be less looking at larger one imo best bet

Okay. I'll try that out then. Will have to see what my LFS has as I think they only have small ones. I hope everything will work out.

if not take your time ,find one ,more time than money lol, any trouble getting one ,let me know i can hook you up with a breeder i know he will ship you one very reasonable

I should have been more clear when I said adding clown fish the same size would work. This applies mainly when they are young. You cannot add two full grown dominant females to the tank and expect them to get along. The role of dominance in the animal kingdom can be unforgiving. Where naturally a territorial dispute in the wild could result in a simple relocation for the lesser dominant inhabitant. But in our tanks they’re is no room to relocate. In turn the defender keeps feeling the need to display dominance over the claimed territory. Over n over
