How do you know proper flow in DT?

I had no extension until I started feeding my SPS. Twice a week I give them Tropic Marine Pro reef snow and phyto. After two months of this, my coral polyp extension is super crazy. If there is nothing in your tank for them to grab, they won't waste energy extending polyps for food.

Even two Wav pumps at full tilt in that size tank wouldn't be enough to cause all SPS to retract. Though it may do some damage to the sps closest to the flow...
I have no sps in direct line of fire of the pumps. I try to give indirect flow. Nothing is being blasted that I can tell.

Getting good PE at night with no or little PE during the day is usually an even greater indication that a fish is nipping. If there is never good PE, I'd lean more towards some type of nocturnal invertebrate nipping, pests or a parameter issue.
That is good info to have. Thank you!

I have no issue removing the Angel or the Blenny. I just have to figure out how I will do that. Gonna need a fish trap i guess.

I have quite a few inverts as well. Cleaner shrimp, coral banded shrimp, fire shrimp, emerald crabs, hermits, Sally Lightfoot

SLF crabs and and emeralds (to a much lesser degree IME) can be problematic, and there are a fair amount of reports of them picking at corals. If you're going to go the route to try to remove the flame and blenny, you might want to re-home the SLF while you're at it. If you can just catch the flame without having to tear things apart, that's where I would start.

I think I might as well remove them all.if I can get them out. I will try. I'm not so much attached to any of them as I am the corals. So that will be where I start. I will begin removing the potentially problematic live stock over the next couple weeks and see where it goes from there. Time for process of elimination. [emoji2]

yea possibly. But if they're all in 6 to say 10 In,persec indirect and absorbing nutrints and alk through their skin why would they need to put out Polyps too. dunno.

Anyone have any suggestions on a trap? There are quite a few options. Anyone had any luck with them?

Aqua medic makes one that gets pretty good feedback

I have read that some SPS corals will grow algae on the tips if they have to much direct flow on them.. I am fighting Phos around .03-.04 and high nirates so any new SPS I add is unhappy and I have read that sometimes if they have to much flow, when the tips get burnt they can grow algae. Thoughts?
75g with a Glamorca GP03 at 40-60% on with an MP10

Funny thing is, I'm actually shooting for those levels of PO4. What are your nitrates at? It sounds plausible, but I have never seen it before. What are the rest of your parameters at?

Wait ur flo meter is supposed to be what on the wavs? Seven? Where did u get that info at?

Ok, so as far as I understand this from watching the videos on Neptune, when you install the WAV powerheads you drop down the TILE for your pump that tells status of the pump. If you have two WAV you drop down two Tiles, one for each.

So then there is another TILE you can unlock and drop down called FLO. This is the one I was unaware of. This TILE calculates the aggregate Flow of the pumps to the volume of your water. Along with this is there is a relative chart in which "they" whoever "they" is,, states that sps dominant tanks like a FLO calculation of 6-7 in that TILE.

This is not the same a the Flow meter that Neptune has for monitoring flow from the return pumps.

At the 5:18 mark on the video it explains the FLO tile

In the Apex controller if you click on the settings for the FLO TILE and the help button you can look at the guidelines. This is where this chart is.

I think I would step back a bit before removing livestock. Is anything actually dying? Are the corals growing? If there doesn't appear to be any immediate concerns I would try more flow and possibly feeding as some have suggested. While time is passing watch for nipping and then potentially remove livestock if you notice something. You could just use a webcam to watch the tank and scroll through the videos every once and a while.

Omg just read the post I had the same problem with polyps extension go hide my self and watch my flame angel snapping on the accropora !!! Omg have to take him out
I had crazy polyps extension at night but on day exept one or two no extent at all !!

So I need to be higher?

I have very nice pe on my corals so I don't know about the 6-7 but I do not run higher then 60% I do have an mp10 against my back wall tho but that's no higher then 75%

Just for fun here is the rest of my stuff I have a 90 gallon tank any input would be awesome

I only use the app on my phone so I never saw that thanks for the video I'll watch it in a bit

I noticed you said you have a 90 gal tank. But you entered 170 for volume. The volume number to enter into the FLO Tile is on the volume of the DT. Not including sump. See what your FLO calc is after changing the 170 to 90gal.
