Hi y'all anyone keep a sea apple in their tank? I once read a couple people reference sea apples as "death in a colorful package" or "colorful time bombs". This may be true, however there are a few who have been very fortunate to have kept one for a length of time. I've kept a sea apple in my reef since 10/02/2010

right after I dismantled and rebuilt my tank, it didn't like that very much. I thought I might loose everything

Lol it is kinda funny when you come home one day and after sitting in the same spot for 6 months it takes a walk and sits on top of your favorite coral.

I had one for awhile and then it disappeared. It didn't cause any damage to the tank... maybe it's still alive in behind my rock wall which has lots of room for fish, inverts and such. I also have 'spraybars' behind the rock wall so there is also good water movement back there. I also have an indigo dottyback that has been in the tank for over 2 years and I've only seen it a grand total of about an hour. All in 10-20 second incriments at feeding time!

Your apple looks spectacular. Good job on keeping it long term.

I think sea apples are really cool creatures and definitely add something to the tank that no other creature can match, In my 15 years though of doing reef aquariums both professionally and as a hobby I have only ever seen 1 tank get wiped out from a sea apple, and I have seen probably 150-200 tanks that had them in them

They are also suprisingly easy to keep for a filter feeder

Gorgeous, i absolutely love sea apples. How big's your system and do you supplement its diet somehow?

lol you must have been worried when you say, " it didn't like that very much. I thought I might loose everything".

Much respect for keeping him alive and healthy, he's a beaut.

Thanks guys and ladies!
My system is actually pretty small, 65~ gallons total in circulation. I don't specifically add anything just for the apple just a pinch of freeze dried plankton size food for all my filter feeders and corals. I have noticed that if I do not add the plankton sized food once or twice a week it will start moving around my tank usually toward a Vortech looking for higher flow and food. I also have not read of many instances of a sea apple killing an entire tank.
I do think that it Definitly possible for the gentleman who hasn't seen his that it may be behind his rock work right in front of a spray bar just sitting there peacefully soaking it up while hiding out :)

The LFS gets these all the time. I've always wanted one but never pulled the trigger. Thanks for posting your experiences with them.

The colors on that sea apple is stunning.
It looks like GOD to his paint brush use color combinations that only he can comprehend.

That's it. I'm going to get one now. Apparatus wanted to try one but reading this thread, I'm going to do it
