I prefer frag disks over the plugs. I don't like eggcrate, so I have to cut the ends off of plugs to put them in the substrate.

Anyone know where can I find the 3" plugs now? I had a place and now he's changed his sizes. LMK.

after reading this thing for how many days...i jsut realized the topic says...how do you like four zoas mounted...anybody else notice that? LOL

I like the plugs. Since I am a collector that makes it easy to find a place on the rack. I counted the plugs once and had 150. I think there are more now. :) This keeps them from falling or getting lost. I use the square tile for propagation but they sit on a rack w/ gaurds to keep them in place.

And DT has nice zoas! I've been able to transfer them by lying the plug in the display and letting them grow onto adjacent rock. Afterwords, I remove the plug, which has an even bigger colony of zoas. Those that grew on the sides can be cleaved off and propagated.

I can work with both a flat and medium stem that I can push through egg crate. I hate ORA plugs! Mike (Flricordia) had a really good tip on mounting zoa's and paly's... take a plug (flat or stemmed), put super glue on the plug, dip it in LS and then glue your frag on that. When it's time to move the frag or refrag it, just slice the sand with the frag off the plug.

I like mine mounted with LE Chalice, Acans, Sps, and Palys! :D

i like plugs the least, ut i despise the plastic plugs bleuurgghh!!!

I totally agree with you. Plastic frag plugs are like throwing trash into the ocean. They don't have any porosity.

I prefer rubble rock but if a coral is mounted on a plate or plug, that doesn't deter me from buying it at all.

When I mount my own frags, I try to mount them on rubble rock. Part of the problem is I don't have a local supply for frag plugs/plates, which makes ordering them off the net a pain to do. Lately I've just been using dry base rock that I've soaked in RO and placed in my sump for a bit. Looks pretty good.

Those ceramic plugs/plates are niiiiiiiice. Got a couple corals mounted to those. Love them.

Doesn't matter to me.
Has to come off the plug once i get it home anyway, and glued to a new plug of my choosing.
Plugs are where pest eggs like to live.

Of course this is much easier with sps, lps.
Do you zoa guys just leave your zoas on plugs and not worry about it?

I love frag discs! I like the 2" ones, the perfect size to grow out corals and then put them on the rock. Also, with discs, I just put a glob of putti on the rock, and squeeze it down, and just like that I have mounted my coral to the rock. Frag plugs are harder because you only have so many holes in your rock large or small enough for those stems. Rubble, that is the absolute WORST! It just never sits when I need it to, it finds a reason to wobble each time, and just doesn't stick to coral putti for some reason!

Also I heard someone here say they hate plastic plugs because they aren't porous and it's like putting trash in the ocean,
well, while we're at it, let's get some ceramic egg crate

I prefer frag plugs ....easy to remove he stem or frag from them. and for dipping and cleaning purposes rubble rock has to many hidey holes for pests to hide or lay eggs in.

For me it really depends. For growout frag disks are the way to go. The zoas will grow nice and flat making it easy to frag away afterwards. For a display, I hate the look of frag plugs everywhere. So I break away the frag plug that the zoa is on and let them take over what little plug is left until I can't see it anymore. :)

For me it never stops me from buying a coral because of the plug. However I dislike the frag plugs because they are have to glue onto a rock without cutting the bottom off

Rubble all the way. Preferably naturally attached. So much easier to place. And natural looking. I hate the look of plugs and disks. To smooth to grip rock. And plugs are just a pain in the butt.
