How do you Log your Tank Parameters, Livestock notes etc.

So how do you log information your Tank Parameters, Livestock (new additions, notes on condition), etc.??
I have Apex Fusion and it definitely has perks. It is great to log on and check in on my tank if I am away. But in the future if you upgrade (or in my case replace a faulty brain) you lose all your past data, logs etc. While Apex graphs are nice , it is frustrating to know I will lose any data on livestock, maintenance and parameters with Apex upgrades/repairs.
I log my Tank Parameters on Excel but I would like to find an app etc. where I can keep everything in one place (data, photos, etc.).
Any recommendations?? Especially one that you can be upgraded without losing old logs? I would really like one where I could upload photos to monitor coral growth as well.

Those should would good go with whichever you like better. I don't have an apex I have the digital aquatics Archon controller so I don't don't how the apex works. But is there a way to export your graph and notes data? The archon allows me to export graph and notes data. If the apex allows you to do this just export the graph into a folder and every time you have to update export and start fresh. If you ever have to go back and look at old data which honestly how often do you actually do this, it's in a folder. You want multiple copies of info in more then one place anyways.

Personally I would rather not have to log onto a app to put all my tank info on and have type or log the same info in multiple places. For me I make all my fish, T5 bulb, media, WC info and general notes in the notes app on my phone. The notes app is linked to iCloud so it automatically gets saved on my computer and on iCloud. For the graphs I'll just let them run, I rarely look at them. If there is an update I just export the graph data to my computer and let the archon start with blank readings.

But I see where you want the convenience of putting it all in one place. All in one place isn't bad as long as all that stuff organized is also backed up elsewhere. Idk of any app that allows someone to easily transfer data. You are going to have to retype every bit of info you have.

There you go you just came up with a million dollar idea. Any app designers on here? Someone make an app that is compatible with apex and/or the new DA Archon where you can link the app to the controller. I'm sure it would be easier with the archon because it's Linux based and can type in commands but that's besides the point. The app will by user choice either automatically or when prompted to, take all the saved information logged on the controller and save it onto the app where it'll be neatly arranged and easily accessed. The app also needs to be iCloud friendly so that if the app starts to take up too much memory it can be uploaded to the cloud to free up some memory. We need an app that takes all the tedious retyping, copying work out of the equation. Million dollar idea who's gonna make the app? I'm positive the idea is exponentially easier said then actually designed and put into effect but it's something with a whole lot of time is possible.
 
I have been using Aquaticlog for almost 2 years to log my measurements, dosing, maintenance, and notes. It allows for use of multiple tank profiles as well as integration of Apex and other controllers (it pulls data once a day and logs it like a measurement). Everything I do is through the app on my iPhone, though the full browser version is better featured.
 
My local hardware store gives out free calendars around Christmas time. I just get one of these and stick it to the wall. Parameters are recorded, dates when GAC/GFO were replaced etc. Simple, but effective. ;)

Thanks for clearing that up! I didn't read that great into detail the apps he listed.

Exactly my point about writing multiple places -a waste of time. And i totally agree -unless you can export/back up your data why waste the time to input something. The things I like to reference:
  • When equipment was installed (for warranty or to see how many years it performed well)
  • When Fish was added and size
  • When coral was added and size
  • Some more infrequent maintenence tasks (like changing RODI filters)
My tank parameters don't fluctuate much etc. But the info I listed above are things you want to reference months to years later. Calenders are great but it is more effective to have information categorized (Equipment, Fish, Corals, etc) so you can access it quickly!

I forgot to mentions, the documentation of equipment, fish, inverts, and automated dosing can be tracked with Aquaticlog as well. It's a well rounded program, and free to join. It's worth a try if monitoring/documenting everything about your tank is important to you.
 
I use Aquarimate app on my iPad/iPhone. It's handy; I always have it on me. It does everything I need.
It sends me reminders to fill my ATO, change my filter socks, etc.
I can take photos of my tank additions and update to track their progress.
I think it was a few bucks.

Hah! That's understandable. I'm a newbie though, so it helps me to document. Especially the maintenance that is not
weekly.

I will check it out. It sounds good! I like that it can be integrated with my APEX. I'm a newbie so I document a lot . It helps me keep on track and I can look info up when someone advising me asks questions.
I like recording things quickly & efficiently once in a central source but accessible if I need the data. Thanks!
 
I use aquarimate on my iPhone. Reminders and tracking is great. Customizable for photos. I like it.

Like @cmcoker I am a fan of Aquarium Note on my Android phone, it logs all basic parameters and you can set user defined parameters as well. It also lets you store photos of your tank and tracks your tank on a day-to-day basis. One of my other favorite (and terrifying to review) features is that it lets you log all your inventory (live stock, dry goods, equipment) so you can keep a tab on your spending.

Yes it's a lot more fun to view the tank than your expense sheet.:eek::confused:
